Awaken (Divine Hunter Series Book 1) by L.J.Sealey

Awaken follows Michael Warden as he comes to a university in search of the real reason 4 college students recently committed suicide, because he just can't believe the theory that it was a “suicide pact.” Michael gets himself a short-term job as a substitute psychology professor in order to get on campus and gather information from people on campus that may be able to provide clues as to what's been going on. Lacy Holloway, another professor at the university, is asked to show Michael around campus and in turn a friendship begins.

After seeing a couple odd interactions between a couple students, Nina and Jake, something that's too much of coincidence happens when Nina attempts suicide right after a fight between her and Jake. Michael and Lacy find themselves in the middle of everything, with Lacy trying to be there for Nina, and Michael trying to find Jake to see what was really going on with him.

As things progress, demons and evil spirits are found to be at the root of a lot that's been going on. A steamy romance develops between Michael and Lacy, as they learn more about each other's pasts.

The story was good, with the nice mix of mystery, adventure, suspense, and romance. The author did a nice job with the addition of other characters, such as Evo the lovable womanizing demon hunter and the goddess Alethia. The book started a little slow, but overall I enjoyed it and will likely read the next book in the series to see where things go.

I only had a few issues with the book overall. There seemed to be a plot hole toward the end when the school and the fact that Michael and Lacy should've been at work teaching just disappeared from the storyline. I also don't think it made sense for the temporary apartment provided for Michael during his short-term employment would have some security in place and then no mention is made about how he had random strangers dropping by and staying at his apartment with no one on campus saying a word about it. Overall I give this story 3 stars and would recommend it to paranormal romance book lovers. I plan to read Book 2 of the Divine Hunter Series and look forward to seeing how the author continues the story.

When four college students commit suicide on a campus in Maryland, Michael a hunter of the supernatural knows there is something more to it than the suicide pact that the police and university officials are calling it. Mainly because he cannot find anything to link the four students together. So Michael forges documents and puts himself in the computer as a substitute professor who is already scheduled to come in. In his past life he was a computer programmer so this makes it super easy for him to do. Oh yea he is also dead, and inhabiting Michaels body, so he doesn’t need to eat or sleep like he did when he was living but it helps to pass the time.

When Michael arrives on campus he meets Lacy another faculty member in the Psychology department. She shows him around campus and to the dormitory where he will be staying for the next two months, soon they become fast friends as they are both loners. Within two days there is another student death a young girl jumps out of the window of her dorm. Also a student Nina former girlfriend of a jumper starts acting super strange. She changes her whole demeanor and starts getting cozy with a guy she was tutoring named Jake. Lacey sees them arguing and notices something strange and immediately goes to find Michael, when Nina is found lying on the ground from an apparent suicide attempt Michael watches the demon climb out of her and follows it back to Jake’s body. It appears he has found the link now to get with Evo and figure out how to solve it.

I cannot wait to continue this series it looks like it is going to be great. I like how the books are kept present day without going crazy on all the details.

In this paranormal romance, Michael Walden is a demon hunter who is actually dead. He inhabits the body of a junkie who is about to die and won't be missed. This is the first book I've read from this author. It has a slow takeoff but once it picks up speed it's a story that has you flipping the pages to see what happens next. Michael was a very successful computer geek who started his own multi million dollar software company. He had everything a guy could want before he's murdered and doesn't know by who or why.

Not long after his death he becomes a demon hunter. He becomes best friends with a guy he saved from a demon attack, Evo. Evo was a messed up junkie who changed after meeting Michael. Michael is going to investigate a series of suicides at a college because he feels that demons are involved. With his computer knowledge he finds they have a substitute teacher scheduled to show up and does some fancy computer stuff and changes the name of the substitution to his own.

Once he arrives at the college he is shown around by fellow teacher Lacy Holloway. After he's been there a few days there is another suicide. A student, Nina, is questioned by Michael about one of the “jumpers” who was her boyfriend. She is now involved with a strange student Jake. A demon is causing mayhem in there lives. The relationship between Michael and Lucy gets steamy even though Michael tries to fight it.

When everything is going to Hell a deity goddess named Alethia and an Incubus named Jaret are the only hope for Michael and Evo, as well as Lacy. Looking forward to reading what's next in Divine Hunter series.
